Paint-Box threads

Paint-Box threads is renowned for its wide range of hand-dyed colours. These start at the rich, intense shades right through to the subtle and delicate. We make all our own colours from extensive trials of different dye recipes, so you'll never find the same colours elsewhere. We also pride ourselves, in our colour combinations of threads and fabrics. We like to select colours for our packs and kits with a theme in mind and are named to spark the imagination. The nature of the hand-dyed process in our 'plain' colours, give a subtle variation of colour along the length of the thread that you will not find in industrially dyed threads. This adds a great depth to a piece of stitching, without the obvious change of a variegated thread. To keep this subtly we have painstakingly replicated our thread colours into our fabric range creating coordinated threads and fabrics for projects. Our fabrics are created using tried and tested hand dyeing techniques which produce beautifully textured and utterly unique pieces. While both our threads and fabrics have had great reviews on how lovely they are to use, our mercerised cotton stands out as a super easy thread. It is a very strong thread than doesn't fray or fluff and rarely kinks while sewing due to the high twist. It is so smooth, our 'plain' shades can even go through the sewing machine. We also have a range of 60+ silk colours in a fine weight thread that produces excellent embroidery finishes. Our fabric range is steadily increasing since it was launched last summer. Our stock favourite is a soft cotton sateen fabric, and each piece is completely unique, adding that something special to quilting and textile art projects. We have also just begun a line of plain cottons that make a perfect base for Kantha and free hand embroidery work.
