Leonie Pujol The Craft Store Presenter

Demonstrating and Crafting to Inspire all here on The Craft Store

My name is Leonie, and I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the craft industry for many years now. I’m originally from Lancashire - although you’d hardly be able to tell with my accent! I always crafted as a kid and was encouraged by my family, especially my mum and sister. When I decided to give up a “proper” job (a stockbroker!) to try and make a living out of craft, my mum and sister were there to help and support me. My sister and I even used to travel around England doing craft fairs.

Things went from strength to strength, from working in a craft shop, guesting on other television channels and so much more. I moved to The Craft Store as they offered me the amazing opportunity of having real creative freedom alongside presenting, which has been amazing. I regularly guest for companies, have my own range of craft products, and have my own weekly show, Let Leonie Loose which is on every Wednesday at 11am & 2pm.

Crafting is still a hobby, but I also love getting outside, either walking the dog or pottering about with plants. I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, films, and music.

This changes all the time! Currently I’m loving crispy tofu in a satay dressing... ask me again in a few weeks though

When did you first discover your love for arts and crafts?

When I was a child. My parents always encouraged me to craft.

Have any of your family and friends been inspired to take up any arts and crafts based on your career?

Well, my mum has always crafted but she has definitely got into die cutting and the wonderful dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs because of me. She’s making a lovely memory book at the moment.

When you’re crafting do you have a favourite snack?

Oh man, this is the lethal bit isn’t it!! I’ve always had a serious sweet tooth, but I’ll snack on anything. I’m a fan of a nutty bar as well!

What’s your favourite hot beverage (e.g. coffee, tea, hot chocolate)?

I absolutely love Chai Tea. It’s following my trip to India, it smells amazing!

While you’re crafting do you like to have music on? If so, what type and do you find it helps your creativity?

Yes, I love Radio 6. Otherwise I’m a Radio 4 kinda girl - or a cheeky podcast!

Do you have favourite place to craft in the home (e.g. a dedicated craft room, in the kitchen, living room etc.)?

Currently, I have a craft room at work, use of Studio 2 at Hochanda HQ, and I also take over the dining room at home. I love my craft room at work though, it’s really bright and peaceful.

What’s your top crafting tip?

Just enjoy it!! Don’t get bogged down with what you should or shouldn’t do, what’s right or wrong, if you’re too old or too young. Experiment. Play. Have fun. Crafting is such a rewarding experience, so just enjoy the journey, the final destination is irrelevant.

What is your funniest on-screen moment?

Mmm... there’s been many fits of giggles for no reason, which I always love. I like the times when we’ve had to dress up as well. Being sawn in half will always be one of my favourites!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!

I was incredibly shy as a child. Painfully so. I wanted to do so much, but was just too scared. I wish I could go back and just give that kid a bit of encouragement - sit there with her so she can learn guitar. Or go with her to a ballet lesson. There’s so much I missed out on through fear.
